Lambing - The Barn

Midnight was by far my favourite time of day in the barn. The lights were on, but the world beyond was silent and dark. The sound of cud being munched filled the air, with the occasional ewe or lamb adding a loud "baa" or bleat to the mix. I was always surprised that after a long day, I usually didn't feel tired so late at night. I don't fully understand the reason, but those nights in the barn are counted among the most beautiful and peaceful things I've ever experienced.

A collection of photos and a couple of video clips from my days in the barn.

Jess, Henry's niece, was at the farm for a visit and I got a shot of our fabulous floral wellies toe-to-toe.

A ewe getting some help with the final lamb in a set of triplets.

Mom and siblings checking out the new addition.

A comfy chair for taking a break when things get quiet.

Wobbly new legs.

A hungry lamb.

The wheelbarrow shot is my favourite in this bunch.

I totally agree about midnight in the barn. I love the cold, clear February or March nights at lambing time. There is nothing lovelier than the peacefulness of the barn at night, with the sounds of cud chewing and burping, and the ewes getting their lambs up to nurse. I especially love it when the lambs climb up on mama and go to sleep there.
