So, yeah, um, remember that cute little car I was having so much fun driving? The one where every time I drive it I end up trying to get in on the wrong side? Yeah, well, something is really wrong with it. Hopefully it's easy to fix... it's at the mechanic's right now. It's not my fault.
It's been chugging and seemingly running out of fuel since the first time I drove it (Bernie drove it first... blame him!). When I tried to fill it up I discovered it was already full. Managed to limp it over to the mechanic's and he'll take a look at it tomorrow.
Between breakdowns, my day today included walking a total of four miles... one of them in the pouring rain and two of them with Qimmiq (my hands are now rough and worn from holding/pulling on the leash for an hour). All four miles were walked along these crazy country roads where they think the ideal situation is to grow your hedges right up against the edges of the road and drive like a maniac around every corner. Qimmiq learned the words, "Up" and "Stay" real quick as we jumped up the banks of grass when cars came in opposite directions at the same time... they definitely didn't plan for pedestrians out here.
As an aside, for a country that is supposed to be so polite and well-mannered, what's with pedestrians not having the right of way?
Oh - and I went to the grocery store the other day and discovered that they sell hotdog wieners in some kind of liquid in jars. I need to check the ingredients next time... looked like alien food.

The wieners smell worse than they look.
I'm pretty sure the pedestrian thing goes along with the mindset that vehicles hurt pedestrians more than pedestrians hurt vehicles so the latter better watch out for the former! Simple common sense really...which apparently means Canada and most of North America are nonsensical at best when it comes to "organized" driving habits.
Hi again, Amanda,
It's a hoot learning to drive a right hand vehicle, eh? (Don't forget to teach your new friends that piece of Canadian colloquialism.) Hubby and I went to New Zealand in January and I had to learn to drive our standard transmission Toyota campervan on the "wrong" side of the road. Took awhile to remember the turn signal is on the right side; I kept turning on the windshield wipers instead. (they are on the left side). When I got home to my own truck it was a couple of days until I stopped feeling for the gear shifter!
Romy will be so impressed when she gets home and finds that you have Qimmiq all trained! If you yank hard enough on the leash, maybe he'll learn not to pull.
You're there till the 6th? That's the day we're on stage, about 2:00pm Honolulu time! Send us some harmonic vibes!
Margaret
Thankfully the turn signal is on the left side of the steering wheel so it's one less thing to try to remember! On the right is a thing that looks like it should control the windshield wipers but instead you rotate through four different letters and I have no idea what they mean. I've figured out that "O" means no lights, "V" means lights are on, but not sure about the other two. I need to play with it and figure it out. The windshield wipers are controlled with an on/off button on the dash.
Hi Amanda. You sure are quite the photographer. We are amused to read of your adventures as a foreigner in a foreign land. You have obviously learned already that in UK pedestrians do not rule. In my humble opinion they take far too much for granted in Canada. Do take care especially remembering to look the other way when crossing the road! Have you heard any more from Henry and Co? The date for my heart surgery is drawing nigh! (Oct. 27th) Isobel and I will appreciate your prayers. Have a wonderful time.
Much love. Clayton and Isobel.
