Another flight booked - I'm going to Italy!

I'm going to Italy for two weeks - from January 24 until February 7! I decided to go for two weeks instead of three in order to just get a taste and save some cash to return when the weather is warmer and the flowers are blooming. (My internet access in Italy will be intermittent at best, so blog addicts should brace themselves for a little famine.)

When I was first offered the place in Italy I was absolutely thrilled... now I'm really nervous. It's my first time going to a foreign country alone where I don't know the language and nobody is meeting me at the airport to show me around. I'm hoping my limited Spanish will help in picking up Italian. I'm renting a car because the cottage is out in the country with limited access to public transportation. Besides, I'm more of a back-roads kind of girl so I like having my own wheels. But what if I get in an accident? What if some irate Italian starts screaming at me or I commit some traffic violation and I can't understand the police? I'm trying to avoid thinking about it.

"The crisis of today is the joke of tomorrow."

I feel like I should be bouncing off the walls with excitement to finally get into Europe, and sometimes I get butterflies in my stomach when I think about the fact that I'm really and truly going to Italy, but it's also a daunting prospect to do this alone. I know I'll have incredible experiences so I just need to let go of the fear, delight in the moments, and see what each day brings.

Hi Amanda! Remember me? (The writer from Montreal?) I'm sorry it's taken me until now to finally visit your blog. My "punishment" is that I'm pages and pages behind on what you've been up to and it all looks so interesting that I don't want to just start with your latest posts. I will have to make time to start at the beginning. :) Your photos are fabulous, too! I should get my niece, who wants to go into photography in college next year, to check out your blog, too.

Anyway, thanks for including me on your mailing list. Maybe we connect again. (I don't even remember how we first made contact... was it through my blog??)

God bless you!!

P.S. Are you on Facebook? I'll go check... :)

We originally met because you wrote an article for Focus on the Family regarding single adults living at home not being losers. :-) I emailed you and FOTF to express my gratefulness for addressing the issue, then you interviewed me for another article, then we discussed you helping with editing my grandmother's book but I ended up going with somebody in BC. Yeah... we go way back, but it's a bit obscure. :-) Glad you're enjoying the blog!
