More Travel Plans

Today I booked my trip to Switzerland so I think all my vacations until mid-March have been organized. The next couple of months will be busy and fun!

Oak Hall is a Christian tour group aimed at people in their twenties and thirties and I'm going on one of their week-long trips to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland (Jungfrau). A group from Henry's church (I spent Christmas with his family) is going and he invited me join in. It's a good price and a great opportunity to see the snow-covered Alps and have a group of people to hang out with in the evening. The purpose of the trip is to go skiing and snowboarding; both are activities I don't enjoy, although I've tried each one several times. There are walking trails and train access to visit the surrounding area so I figure I won't have any trouble filling my time there. The only thing I'm dreading is the bus transportation... 18 hours each way.

This trip to Switzerland reminds me of a couple of years after high school when a group of friends got together and we rented a cabin at a cheap ski hill called Mt. Cain on Vancouver Island for a New Years getaway. Most people took off snowboarding but a few of us just spent time at the cabin, went snow-shoeing or cross-country skiing, or just went for walks to enjoy the snow. So many great memories! Lots of laughing and playing cards and concentration games (Big Booty!) until all hours of the night. Here are a couple of photos of the good old days.

Posers with glow sticks (2000).
L-R: Dan, Russ, Michelle, Crystal-Anne, Lisa, Mark

Me and Russ with Jenn's broken ankle (1999).
Jenn tried to go off a bit of a cliff in cross-country skis... don't ask.
(The grins are because at this point we thought she had just twisted her ankle and Jenn was still laughing about the stupidity of how it happened. The pain set in quickly and the smiles disappeared. We're not completely heartless.)

that's got to be 2 different years, judging by Russ' hair. I'm guessing the broken ankle one must have been 1999, and the group one could have been 2000? That's the year Paul layed on the floor the whole time thinking about how he had confessed his love to me. :) We got married in 2001, did you go up after our wedding?

Nicely done! No, we didn't go back after you got married so your dates would be correct. I remember Paul pining away... wasn't he waiting for an answer from you or something!? Must have been 1999 that he tried to get me to give him a massage. He had sore shoulders and he knew I gave a good massage but that I wouldn't give them to guys. His attempt at convincing me was saying, "I promise I won't think bad thoughts." LOL! Hmmm, yeah, um, Paul, that's not gonna work.

The response was already a reality...it was the sinking in of actually being married which seemed to find me somewhat speechless on the floor for hours on end.
As for the massage thing...you are making that up...and if you're not and I have just blocked that rejection from my mind then like any other mature person I will say that I really didn't want one anyways.
Nonetheless, goodtimes memories. Probably the one thing I remember most was that "Psychology" game when we were all being a certain persons mom and they just couldn't figure it out. Man, we were so mean.

I forgot about that game! It was pretty mean... but awfully funny.

And I'm totally not making up the massage story. You were probably mostly just baiting me to see if I'd react... but I just laughed.

Hi Missy. I hope you'll at least spend those 18 hours each way with Henry and his friends !! Can't imagine doing in on your own.

I LOVE Switzerland, one of my favorite places in Europe. You'll have a blast, glad you are going.

Henry and co are flying down - I registered too late to fly, and besides, it costs an extra £100 so it's nice to save the cash. The bus is for people on the holiday so it'll be a great chance to connect with other people I'll be spending the week with.

Hey Amanda, you forgot some people in the first picture. I know the hands which are making Russ into a moose are most definitely Marty's, but the person who Lisa is ousting...can't figure it out.
