Doesn't Rain - Just Pours

Last Thursday I received a text from Matthew (Emma's husband) telling me about a six-month contract in Basingstoke providing administrative support to a project team at Motorola. I wasn't planning to apply for any more jobs, but with a pay rate of £15 per hour, I couldn't resist submitting my resume (the other jobs I've applied for paid £8 or £9). I planned to call the employment agency to follow-up on Friday but ended up spending the day with Emma and the girls instead. This morning I called to speak with the agency to find out if my resume would be submitted and it sounded like the consultant hadn't even viewed my email yet. He took a look at my resume, asked me to make some adjustments so it better reflects the job specifications, and said he'll submit it to the company this afternoon.

As I was making adjustments to my resume I received the following email from Hampshire County Council:
"After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that you were unsuccessful on this occasion."

There's a first time for everything, and this is the first time I've been interviewed for a job and not received an offer. It's a bit of a bruise to the ego, but I'm not as disappointed as I thought I would be. The email offered feedback upon request so I've asked for more information on why I was turned down for the role. The timing of the email is yet another reminder that I serve a God with a sense of humour.

This new job in Basingstoke is much more appealing than the other positions I've interviewed for. Although it still has relatively basic administration requirements, there's a variety of tasks to keep things from getting too monotonous (the other roles were just answering phones and processing paperwork). The recruitment consultant asked if I'm available for an interview this afternoon or tomorrow as the company wants someone to start immediately. If I get the job, I could be starting as early as Wednesday.
