I ♥ Faces

A friend and fellow blogger recently sent me a link for a site called I ♥ Faces - a blog with weekly photography competitions under various themes. The prize is bragging rights - good enough for me!

The theme this week is "Funny, Silly Faces". I looked through my stash of photos and tried to find a photo of someone else making a funny face, but this is what I came up with:


Yes, that's me. I sang with a Sweet Adelines Chorus for one year and absolutely loved it! (I reluctantly quit when I decided to move to England.) I shot the above photo in a mirror in my hotel room after my first performance with the chorus - we were non-competing guest performers at the 2007 International Competition at the Calgary Saddledome (we sang Fame and A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes - click here to listen to a clip of us singing Fame). I've never worn so much makeup before! My favourite was wearing the false eyelashes - some of the women whined about wearing them, but I was excited by any opportunity to put them on.

I joined Westcoast Harmony Chorus because I was comfortable being on stage but had never combined singing and acting into one, over-the-top dramatic package. I'm not into the sparkly costumes but I adore the harmonies. If you think it's fun listening to the barbershop style, try singing it! There's a lot to learn but it's an incredibly supportive group and, as much as I enjoy choral singing with an orchestra, nothing compares to ringing a chord! I knew it would be a good challenge, but I had no idea about the great vocal training and wonderful friendships that would come along with the experience.
